Light and opacity study case

For this project, our focus was to study the way light interacts with opaque materials. Our prompt was to design a museum display of a dagger, we were able to choose whatever material, color, or look that we wanted, as long as we  chose a material that was opaque. I decided to design my dagger with references to medieval times and made the end of my dagger made out of a semi-opaque opal crystal.

My process for this piece was to begin with greyscale and layer-over washes of color to create the effects of light interacting with an opaque object.
